Panophthalmitis by bacillus subtilis

Abstract
The various severe traumas to the eyes tend too result in serious damage of vision and especially, most cases of penetrating wound of the eyes are followed by marked diminution of vision.
This is a case of 32 year old male, who revealed panophthalmitis of the left eye due to penetrating trauma by a fragment of iron. The infection was caused by Bacillus subtilis, which is rare in Ophthalmologic clinic. In spite of massive anti-inflammatory treatment of this eye, evisceration has to be done because of severe panophthalmitis.
The sensitivity tests of bacillus subtilis from the lesion demonstrated the most sensitivity to streptomycin and next to chloromycetine, Aureomycin and terramycin in order. There was no sensitivity to penicillin.
